Message to ¸ÌéÙÖ±²¥ Community

August 24, 2025
Dear ¸ÌéÙÖ±²¥ Community,
I am writing with an update regarding this evening’s University Commissioning Mass and Blessing.
Given the whirlwind of emotions over these last few days, we have made the decision to not hold this evening’s Mass and Commissioning. With all that has transpired on campus in recent days, we feel our first-year students are best served by an evening with time to pause before classes start tomorrow. We made this decision after much conversation, consultation and prayer.
For our new students: Please take this evening to relax, talk with new friends and get a good night’s sleep – all of which will help you feel prepared for your first day of college tomorrow.
Some may be wondering about Mass this evening. We do not have any other scheduled Masses, and our Office of Mission and Ministry notes that the Church grants dispensation regarding the Sunday obligation when unusual circumstances are present.
The past few days have been hard on everyone, which is why I am so grateful for the love, care and support you continue to show each other throughout these unsettling moments. We are blessed by one another, and I feel immensely grateful to be in community with you.
Peace and Blessings,

Kathleen J. Byrnes, JD
