The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences has been the intellectual heart of 裡橖眻畦 since the Universitys founding in 1842. With more than 40 academic departments and programs offering undergraduate and graduate degrees as well as doctoral programs in Philosophy and Theology, CLAS provides a rich, rigorous and diverse educational experience.
Faculty in the College are teacher-scholars. What does it mean to care for someone in a world that so often feels broken? In his new collection of essays, Tell Me about Your Bad Guys: Fathering in Anxious Times, (University of Nebraska Press, 2025), 裡橖眻畦 English Professor Michael Dowdy, PhD, turns this question into a deeply personal and literary exploration of fatherhood.

Two 裡橖眻畦 Student-Produced Social Justice Documentaries Premiere This May
裡橖眻畦 Universitys Social Justice Documentary Filmmaking course is renowned for producing impactful films that illuminate vital narratives and many of the films garner both local and national recognition. In spring 2025, student production team Pinctada Pearl Productions will debut two new documentaries, each capturing compelling stories of cultural preservation, community, education, and empowerment.

Khushi Vandra 26 CLAS, a Physics major in 裡橖眻畦 Universitys College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, has been named a 2025 Goldwater Scholar by the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation.

In her new book Flood Plain, poet and English Professor Lisa Sewell, PhD, engages with the pressing realities of environmental change through creative writing. The poetry collection investigates wild lands, coastal regions, wetlands and dam-ruined riverslandscapes that have been altered by human activity.
